Software developers from Smarterer and a host of other local companies will be getting together on Thursday night to exchange ideas and try to shine a spotlight on the Boston “dev” community. If you’ve ever been interested in learning about some of the innovative technology that local companies are working with every day, the event, Stack Dive, should be a great opportunity.
The first Stack Dive, which will take place tonight at WeWork by South Station, is meant to bring together some of the city’s finest chief technology officers, heads of product, and others who play a key role in product development and managing a company’s “backend.”
As James Myers, a software engineer at Smarterer who is helping run the event, said, “We’re all working on some amazing products, but rarely do we get the opportunity to discuss the tech behind what we’re building. Stack Dive is that opportunity.”
The way Stack Dive will work is that each month, one local startup will “lead” the event by opening up and sharing the technology behind its product, leading to a collaborative discussion that could lead to advancements for the product or completely different technologies altogether. “Everyone at Stack Dive will bring their own experience to the table, helping us all consider new ways to apply the tech,” said Myers.
Stack Dive also presents an opportunity for local college students interested in technology and engineering to gain a better understanding of what it’s like to work as a developer for a startup.
Myers said that at Thursday’s event, they are expecting students from Boston College, Tufts, Northeastern, Harvard, and Boston University, and, “hopes the word spreads to other universities with future events.”
At tonight’s Stack Drive, Myers and the Smarterer team will give a presentation on the startup’s technology stack and how it has “evolved to meet new product needs.” Next month, Adelphic Mobile will present.
“This will be centered on why we chose to adopt a front-end Web framework, what challenges we’ve faced, and what we’ve learned along the way,” Myers said.
